Long Island Creek Site 3BUrban Ecology
Overview
Ten trees surrounding Long Island Creek Site 3B were assessed one day during observation. By looking at the trees, we can see how they may affect the stream and its surrounding areas in the near future. Trees were rated 1-4, 1 meaning all is well and 4 meaning that the tree has a high risk of failing. If a tree were to fall into the stream, it could divert water away from its original flow, clog the stream, or cause problems downstream. The probability of target means if the tree fails what would it hit. All trees in site 3B received a ranking of 2 for this category since they could affect a residential and commercial area. The picture on 3B's Stream page shows that a tree has already fallen near the stream and tree #5 is a large dead Loblolly Pine tree that will fall soon. N/A is not a defect code, it indicated that the field it is located under is not applicable to the surveyed tree.

Observations
Some of the defects that we found with the trees surrounding 3B include poor tree architecture (this could mean that the tree is leaning or branches are all on one side), weak branch union, and exposed roots.
